Spirituality and Counseling |

Often people want to be able to speak about their faith and spiritual beliefs as part of their therapy work. I have journeyed with many people of many faith backgrounds. They seek to understand their behaviors and emotions through their spiritual lives and the mental demands of life simultaneously. The religious denomination tends to make little difference when deep feelings, knowledge, and spiritual beliefs are a consideration along with behavior, emotions, and thinking area a part of the counseling process and relationship. I have no hesitation in discussing any religious beliefs and values in the counseling relationship. My background includes earning a graduate certificate in Spiritual Direction from Washington Theological Union, in Washington, D.C. (1989) and over twenty-five years of spiritual friendship and guidance with others. I am a Third Order Franciscan and Formation Director for TSSF, which means I live in the world while following St. Francis of Assisi's ways of simplicity, poverty, joy, and humility. I am an active member of the Episcopal Church, practice ways of Native American and Celtic spirituality, and reverence the gift of Creation who are "All My Relatives." I offer spiritual direction by appointment. This spiritual guidance is not therapy and I keep the two roads in my life, therapy and spiritual direction, separate. Please call me at (678) 773-1630 if you wish to discuss spiritual direction.. Peace and Joy, Paddy Kennington
