The Doctor is In!

Trauma, Dissociation, Grief/Loss, Anxiety and Depression

Many people seek out a counselor to help them with growth and change, career and school issues, and what may be an overwhelming problem or painful circumstance in their lives. They search for solutions among many possibilities and choices.

A real difficulty we all have in making changes in our behavior and understanding is that our brains are really wired not to

change, especially in the context of stress and trauma.  This is because survival is the most important biological principle for

all living beings. (See below for a few books on change, the brain, and learning and therapy).

Reprocessing Therapy or EMDR (Eye Movement, Desensitization, and Reprocessing) is a way to help with traumatic

memories that continue to influence your thinking, behaving, and way of life.  Events that have happened in the past including feelings, sounds, and sensations, can become memories that get "stuck" in the nerve networks of the brain.  These memories

can be a problem years later or right away.  Reprocessing the memories allows for the brain's natural system of memory s

torage to work. I have completed the first level of intensive training in Reprocessing Therapy and will continue this training in

six months.  If you are having problems with past or present trauma or stress, please do seek therapy to aid in dealing with

such issues as childhood abuse, phobias, anxiety, and memories of traumatic events that reoccur in your life.

***EMDR is not a "treatment" of one or two sessions.  EMDR is a lengthy psychotherapy and requires three stage protocol of safety/calming, processing of trauma, and resolution.  If you already have a therapist/counselor, I can only see you as a consultation client with full knowledge of and agreement by, your current therapist/counselor.  It is unethical and against best psychotherapy practices for a client to see more than one therapist at a time unless the client and therapists collaborate and agree that additional therapeutic support is indicated.
