Expectations and Requirements
|
Anyone seeking counseling support or actively involved in a counseling relationship should be aware of personal expectations for reasonable outcomes from counseling and beneficial support from the counselor. For counseling to be effective and of value, both counselor and client must be very clear about expectations for the structure of the counseling relationship. Honesty and trust are the basis of the counseling relationship.
In the initial session for each therapy client, INFORMED CONSENT is explained. This is a document which clearly describes the expectations for the counseling relationship. I agree to provide services according to standard counseling practice and under the ethical guidelines of the American Counseling Association, the National Board of Certified Counselors, and the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of Georgia. The client agrees to attend sessions, intentionally seek understanding of self and behavior change, and pay for services given.
